    1. The implication of protein and especially dairy products, even in small quantities, is contrary to my personal beliefs. It is even contrary to the training I received from Weight Watchers about nutrition and health. However in the interest of keeping an open mind I just downloaded the book. Let’s see what their science says.

    2. The documentary and the book seem to go against what most Americans have been taught, if there's not meat on your plate then there's something wrong. Protein gets pushed by everyone yet these studies show something very different. I'm not a huge fan of meat but it makes me wonder, "Am I doing harm to my body by eating the foods that I eat?" I feel like Danny; I want to learn more not only for my own health by my family's as well.

  4. I found the article to be very disturbing. Having struggled with weight my entire life, doctors always encourage a high protein diet... which now is being proven to cause cancer. What about those who undergo bariatric surgery and are forced to have a high intake of protein for the rest of their lives? Are they going to get cancer? The strangest thing to me is the fact that everyone encourages the drinking of milk because of all the essential nutrients and the calcium it provides. This article and the video say that milk is the number one cancer causing protein. I really must research and re-evaluate everything I have ever learned!

  6. As stated in the video, obesity is the terror within. There are several causes of death that are related to obesity: heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of cancer just to name a few. I’m sure that the twelve year old had tried several weight loss programs before lipo. I just wonder at what age did the parents see her weight as a problem. It wasn’t like she was making her own meals. As far as her keeping the weight off now, she’ll have to make some lifestyle changes. The surgery was not a cure.
The hunter burned a lot of fat just to get food. We don’t burn too many calories going to pick up fast food. The video was correct about everywhere you go you can get food (bookstore, gas station, libraries) .People think they are getting more for their money when they supersize, in fact they are just eating enough for 2-3.
It would be cheaper to grow your own food. For the struggling families renting and moving from home to home this would not be practical to grow their own food. Maybe if someone started a community garden in neighborhoods it would be helpful.

  7. Unfortunately, my husband and I used to eat out quite often because it was convenient, but with our income changes, we have had to cut back and eat more at home. Just knowing that home meals are so much healthier and better for you and fast foods are purposely feeding to obesity, the idea is appalling. I'm not a fan of knowing that company's are manipulating and secretly messing with the so called "quality" food that will later on hurt me. It makes me feel deceived. We all ready need to make a change in our lifestyles, even if we are not obese. There's always something we can do to better ourselves, like spreading our knowledge on this widespread epidemic and putting an end to it.

  9. I think that trailor to the movie Forks over Knives and the Chinese population are very interesting. I would really like to see a study completed on the changes to medical treatment. I think if a major study was completed that it would enlighten other people to this option that so many ov us overlook. I would like to know more on what kind of diet these two men would suggest in order to live a longer, healthier life. I also want to watch the movie (hopefully this weekend). By altering our lifestyles based on what this trailer is talking about and cutting health care cost to 70 and 80%, what kind of other change would happen in our country? I am guilty of ordering unhealthy fried foods, eating at Paula Dean's restaurant, and grabbing the occasional cheeseburger at McDonalds simply beacuase it was fast and easy. Being in this class and being exposed to so much information on health and obesity has really made me start thinking about lifestyle changes that I should make to my life.

    1. I agree with you that this video has really made me look into my own lifestyle and the way taht I have been eating unhealthy. I believe we all are guilty of this habit of going where it is fast. I guess something to think about is how harmful this may be if done in moderation. I too am really interested in the research done with the Chinese population and knowing what kind of diet is recommended.

  10. That article is very interesting! I'm still unsure about how I feel about the information but I'm very interested to read the book and see if what he's talking about makes sense. It's hard to imagine that milk and meat are so hurtful to our health. I'm also planning on getting access to forks over knives to watch that. I haven't ever really paid much attention to what I eat and when I eat it but after seeing these videos in class, it really makes me what to learn about how I can take better care of my body. I've been brainstorming on how I can incorporate more fruits and vegetables into my daily diet and have come up with an exercise schedule. I want to know more about nutrition and become a healthier person!

  11. Most people know someone who has had cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. You can get those diseases by chance but lifestyle can have a major influence on whether or not you have diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. It's easy to think it won't happen to me but the fact is if you don't monitor your eating and lifestyle habits it will affect you in one way or another. I've wondered if these diseases were around a long time ago, or if the boom of the industrial revolution brought also brought the boom and introduction of more disease. Healthcare is such a hot topic right now. Healthcare costs are out of control because people don't take preventative measures to prevent some of these diseases. We need to educate people on how to be healthy. But would it even work? I know how unhealthy fast food is but I still eat it sometimes. The fact is it's cheap, fast, and easy and we as a culture live incredibly busy, fast paced lives. What we really need to do is slow down. The slow movement says to slow down and live better, to live purposefully and enjoy life instead of rushing through it.

Talks about the claim the many degenerative diseases can be controlled or even reversed by rejecting our present diet of animal based and processed foods. When I was a child the meals I ate cooked by my mother were mostly vegetables and fruits. Meat was included but there were days we had meatless meals. Our bodies need protein but meat is not the only source. Today in the rush to grow our food faster and increase the quantity, the food is loaded with antibiotics and hormones. And that is the problem. Are we really getting real food? In the movie, they talked about when it was a time that milk was nature’s perfect food but that has changed took on a slight different twist as time passed. But does milk really does the body good? It also, stated we could reduce healthcare costs by 70% to 80% by changing our lifestyle. My brother in-law is a physician and he has been trying to teach this. He tries to tell his patients they can many disease are preventable just by changing their lifestyle, they way they eat, to exercise and reduce stress. I have decided to go back to my roots, cooking nutritious meals at home, laying off fast foods and processed foods.

  13. Growing meat and dairy were a big part of our diet. My parents always include a vegetable with a meal but a lot of times it was canned or covered in cheese. There were often times when we would get fast food or eat pre-packaged processed food for convenience due to our busy schedule. As I grew older I began to hate the taste of processed food and fast food. I dated a guy in college who lived on a farm and he showed me the trick of the trade for gardening. I was hooked. I enjoyed the tending of the garden and enjoying the crop. Once I was living on my own I almost totally cut out red meat out of my diet. I hardly ever eat processed food any more. I grow a lot of my vegetables.
After watching this video I wonder why any person would want to eat meat or dairy products. With all of the negative side effect from eating these items, it blows my mind why so many Americans do it. I have watched family members and friends die from cancer, heart disease, and diabetes and looking back on their diet I cannot help but think it was due to their diet.
I believe that one of the biggest mistakes our country is making on this issue is through our children. The food that is feed to the children at schools is processed. Our school has had a fruit and vegetable bar for two years now. The idea behind the veggie bar was to allow the children to get as much as they want to eat. At first the students were skeptical of the bar but as the year went on the children were eating more raw vegetables and fruits. When the children go through lunch line they have to feel their plate with so many items (even if they are not going to eat it). The veggie bar does not count when the student are filling their trays so the children have to get a vegetable that is sometimes a starch or it is from a can loaded with salt. At our school the children are not allowed to go back to the vegetable bar after they have sat down. The students eat more of the food from the vegetable bar but are not allowed to get more veggies but are often times offered extra processed chicken nuggets or pizza. What are we trying to teach our kids??? I they are still hungry and wanted veggies but were not allowed to get those item but were offered pizza they are not going to turn it down. Why not let them have the vegetables!
I have recently watched and read a few articles from Michelle Obama about her fight to change childhood obesity. I think she is right that we have to start teaching our children what is important for them and build a strong foundation when they are young. She is real big on community gardens, which she planted one at the White House to show the children how wonderful it is to grow and eat your own vegetables. I think each school should do this and feature an item on their lunch menu from something from their garden. Maybe this would inspire students to ask their parents grow their own garden at home and encourage parents to cut back on the processed and fast food.

What if we could cure sicknesses without medicine? What if our nation health problem could be solved? I think we already know the answer about the questions. It is our foods.
A certain disease can be more prevalent in a certain peoples or families because of their habits or environments but I believe that we can cure any diseases by eating healthy food and through healthy living habits.
